This is the last post-posting I'll do for this course, as this week symbolizes the closure of the DM2572 course for me. Interestingly enough, I have been pleased to realize that week after week, my ability to analyze issues and understand research articles got much better than in the beginning. Of course, this can also be related to the fact that I got more used to speaking English, having been here in Sweden for a little more than a month now. Still, I believe that this course helped me a lot in understanding important issues and how to practically solve them.
During our seminar, we talked more about case study research than qualitative research - as most people have already, like in Theme 4, had the opportunity to face qualitative studies and quantitative studies for their bachelor. I personally wasn't in that case, but still didn't really feel the need to go over again the difference between both, as we had already spent quite a long time during the Theme 4 seminar to discuss this issue. We then exposed the methods that were used in our papers - for example, focus groups, semi-structured interviews, auto-driving... Interestingly enough, I felt that these methods go hand in hand with the numerous methods we have in User Interface and Experience testing; to evaluate a prototype and see if it fits or to pinpoint issues that we have to correct. I feel like the fact that for both these goals we need to delve deeper in order to understand the subject plays a major role in the correlation between the used methods.
Another thing I liked about the seminar is that we got to discuss our papers - I feel like it's somehow a shame that we often didn't think to talk about what we've learned thanks to them, because we mainly talk in the seminars about the questions that we had to answer to. It could have been interesting during the other themes as well to share the conclusions we each drew about our papers, but it's a pity I didn't realize this before the last theme...

Hi,
ReplyDeleteI think that you have written an interesting reflection. I like that you make correlations in between themes. For example by discussing a correlation between qualitative research methods and user experience testing that you mention in your blog post for Theme 5.
I had not thought about making this comparison before. To add to this discussion: I agree that they are similar in the sense that they both take the participants own answers as feedback to help them test or build a theory.
Interesting reflection, with a good summary of what was discussed during the seminar!
Hi Celine,
ReplyDeleteNice reflection. I enjoy reading your blog as you do not only summarize key points for the theme, but also share your study experience here. It is good to know how you feel for the course, lecture, seminar, methods, as well as the way how you think the question, discussion and the study. Personally I feel that this course makes me become more interested in seminar than lecture. Discussing and sharing ideas with others is an interesting and efficient way to study new knowledge, especially for something we are unsure ourselves. In addition, reading reflections also helps a lot for summarizing and further understanding. Therefore thanks for sharing your insightful thoughts and I am looking forward to more discussions with you in our future studies.
Hi,
ReplyDeleteI like the fact that you wrote about your experience in the course. It was nice to read that your skills have been improved during this course. I feel also the same. All the papers that we have ready and the post that we have write helped me a lot to improve my English and my ability to read faster than before, understand research issues and more. From the first week till the last week the difference is noticeable. Also, the structure of the course, with the pre posts, the lectures, the seminars, the reflection post and the comments help me grasp all the week themes and I feel like I have learned a lot, and I have learn more than I could have learn if we just have written exams. Now, in the last week I can understand the meaning of this structure and the contribution of the course to my knowledge. My opinion about discussing our selected papers is the same with yours. Always the discussion with my classmates helped understand better and see each theme from their perspective. Sharing thoughts, opinion and ideas is like sharing knowledge.
Thanks for sharing us with your thoughts! Your thinking was very impressive. You get a good understanding on the two lectures, and I enjoyed reading through your reflections. Good job!
ReplyDeleteHi,
ReplyDeleteYou have written a good reflection and I enjoyed reading it. I would have liked to read a bit more about how you evaluate what a case study is after you have discussed it with your fellow students, but it was also interesting to see how you made connections between the various themes we have discussed by now. I also would have loved to discuss more the papers we have chosen, since I spent so much time analyzing them during the past weeks. It's also just interesting to see how others interpret results or discussions. I have to add, that I really liked your pre-blog and you have written a great summary of the chosen article (Does Internet and Computer "Addiction" exist?). Overall, great job!
Hi,
ReplyDeleteThanks for your reflection and I enjoyed it a lot. I am glad that you have improve yourself in language skill and hopefully wish you will be better and better soon. Due to quite many discussions in Theme 4, we also focused less on the conception of qualitative studies, but I still had a better understanding on it during this seminar. For example,I knew that even two questionnaires with the same topic can lead to different method as long as they have different form of question. We also discussed on our papers a lot, which helped me have a better understanding of the case study.
Thanks your again for your sharing. Keep it up.
